A tale of woe

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

This has not been the best week I have ever had.  First, I screwed up the update to the one site and sent everybody there and nobody could buy because the paypal buttons were bad.  Then, I went to update my newsletters for I Love Desserts.

That wouldn’t be a problem except that there were almost no subscribers.  Site has been up for a bit over a year and gets traffic but nobody seemed to want my newsletter.

Talk about being bummed out.  Geez.

Now part of that was my fault because of other things I have been doing it was being neglected.

Now if you are a regular subscriber you know that I like to set up systems to help me and to save time.  One of those things is to write a bunch of newsletters and preload them for automatic distribution.  After all, in a few hours I can crank out enough for a few months, load them up for delivery, then go to the next thing.  Mark my planner to remind me to go do the next batch.

Easy enough to go in and edit the broadcasts as things change or if the site is updated.  Great time management technique and allows me to create the necessary relationship with my subscribers.

The problem I faced was that the site is getting traffic but obviously I needed to change how I was getting subscribers. Having 5 subscribers was just not cutting it or worth the effort to create the newsletters.

So here are the stats for the site. – Site Summary —                               Visits

            Total …………………… 1,657                        Average per Day ……………… 6                        Average Visit Length ………. 8:34                        This Week ………………….. 39

          Page Views

            Total …………………… 3,758                        Average per Day …………….. 19                        Average per Visit ………….. 3.5                        This Week …………………. 135

You can see that people were coming although not in huge numbers but those that did actually looked around and spent some time reading the site.

I went into my web stats and was getting visitors that were unique also.  Obviously, if I could get them to return (the hardest thing to do on any web site) my visits would go up.

The question was “How to get them to subscribe so I can get them to return?”

Well I had looked at a piece of software a while back and decided that maybe it was worth a try.  Then I blocked off time on Saturday and updated the site to pretty it up a bit, added the software and decided to do a quick test.

The results amazed me.

If you look at the stats above I had gotten 5 subscribers since the site started (one of which was me) on 1657 visitors.  So I was averaging a subscription for every 400 visitors (can’t count mine).

Now to test it I did put a mention for people to check something new out on my site in a newsletter for Opt In Master Course to generate some extra visitors quickly.

The results are in.  Drumroll please.

Visitors - 89

Subscribers - 6

Excited?  You bet.  Things are getting back on track.

All from running a simple piece of software and then reloading the pages.  Check it out here if you have the same problem I HAD.

If you would like to see what it does just visit I Love Desserts and navigate a few pages.  Maybe you will want to sign up for the newsletter too.
