Well December is here and the winter has arrived in PA. Thermometer on the back deck has already been below 20 degrees and seems to be staying below the 40 mark even during the day.

Hoping my blood thickens up as I know it is not unusual but after no fall to speak of it has been a shock. Three weeks until the big guy in the red suit arrives. Where has 2010 gone?

Personally started my year end review and planning in a serious manner this week. Have a great freebie this week for you that I am using and recommend you follow the same steps.

The turtles have been sluggish with the weather change so nothing from Baby but there has been some great posts to help you this week.

Article Marketing Made Easy PLR Course – The next in the packages from Nicole Dean and Melissa Ingold that will allow you to have your own coaching course that can be used in numerous ways. Worth the investment just for your own use if you are article marketing but can be a core product for the coming year for you.

How Much Time Do You Waste

One of the big things that kills the average home business is getting involved in busy work instead of things that grow your business.

There are so many things you can do each day but are they things that are going to grow your business?

All too often you sit down to work and then the email alert goes off, Skype opens with your best bud or you here your Twitter client go off. All of these distractions stop you cold and you react to these instead of doing the thing that you sat down to do. That does not even begin to add in the other things that may interrupt you when you are working at home.

After all if you are home your friends or family feel no remorse in interrupting you.

Every interruption takes you 15 to 30 minutes to get back into the groove.

Now is answering email, using Twitter and networking on Skype always a waste? No but you need to have your golden time when you are doing the things that will grow your business.

These interruptions can make you seem to be extremely busy but at the end of the day you do not complete the tasks you set out to do.

Making sure that you accomplish the things that will grow your business is the key to being successful.

That is one of the reasons that I go through Time Management On Crack each quarter to get back to prioritizing the things that I need to do and recommend that you do too.

It is time and money well invested.

Week In Review – July 3, 2010

Tomorrow is Independence Day here in the US and the barbecues will be a going. Our Canadian brethren had their celebration Thursday and a lot of businesses have started their vacation shut downs.

This is the time when you can set yourself apart because a lot of people are in relaxation mode and the competition becomes a lot less. Now is the time to take advantage of that edge.

Been a bit behind here myself and if you check out the Sunday Rant you will understand why. That said it is time to ramp things up again. This issue and in fact most of this week has been a time to deliver some great free content to help you grow your business.

Make sure that you take advantage of the items that will help you. Added a list of free resources this week. Some you can just download and some you may need to submit your email. All are worthwhile if they fit your business. Even though they are free and quality avoid them if they don’t help you with what you are doing NOW.

TGIF. Yep it is Friday of a holiday weekend here in the US. Our Canadian brethren had there holiday yesterday.

Everyone is in vacation mode or so it seems.

Week In Review – April 3, 2010

Wow it has been an interesting week to say the least. Weather is crazy (must be the end of March) with snow on Tuesday and then calling for 80 degrees today, Add in a holiday weekend this week and it has been an up and down week.

This week also saw the start of a new quarter and here in the US it is almost tax time. So like the weather and the holiday’s your marketing efforts will bounce between extremes.

The key is to make sure that you are doing the things that need to be done and that you are spending your time on things that will pay off and not just the busy work. As I wrote earlier this week are you getting things done or are you fooling yourself?

First Quarter is ending very soon

Wow it is the end of March already. April showers and unfortunately tax day will be here very shortly. How is your year going?

Have you met or exceeded your goals or are you still spinning your wheels?

All too many people I talk to are in the latter category and not the former one. Usually I hear that they just don’t have enough time to get things done.

After all there are all of those interruptions like life, family, etc. that just seem to interfere. If that is not the case then I hear about all of the things they are doing but not getting results.

Either way it usually comes down to time management and doing the things that matter. Do that and you are back to the first category meeting and exceeding your goals.

The problem is that it is easy to get off track. Success can be as big a detriment as failure. You start doing well then you relax and get into bad habits. All of a sudden success starts to slow down drastically.

No matter which is your problem that is one of the reasons I mark my calendar to go back through Time Management On Crack each quarter. It refocuses me on doing the things that matter and not wasting my time getting side tracked.

If you bought Time Management On Crack now is a good time to open it up and go through it again. Mark your calendar for the end of June as a reminder to go through it again.

Time Management On Crack Review

Without a doubt time management is one of the biggest problems if not the biggest problem that marketers deal with in starting a business. Information overload kills more businesses than any other thing.

Robert Plank has put together a great guide to get done the important things and actually take action. Breaking things down into little pieces as he will show you and taking very focused action will make your results expand easily.

Information overload and indecision or the need to make things perfect are business killers. Robert has put together checklists and time savers to get the important things done and stay focused.

Applying these techniques has been a difficult change but has paid dividends for me many times over. The techniques work if you take action.

Now the problem with this product is that you will need to make changes and some of them will not be comfortable. If you embrace it and actually apply the techniques you will become much more productive.

This is product that you will have to go through on a regular basis. Doing it once will help but you will backtrack and need to review this on a regular basis. I have a reminder set to go back through it every 60 days. Each time I do I get better at managing my time. It does take consistent reminders to get this done and why I schedule it for review regularly.

What did you accomplish today?

One of the things I rant about regularly is taking action. Now lets be clear this is actions that will move your business forward not the maintenance crap that is necessary but can overwhelm you.

Taking the time to accomplish at least one step to improve your business is the key. It is a brand new month and the year is half gone. Are you satisfied?

I am not but then I wasn’t taking action for a couple months. May and June have been fantastic but March and April sucked. I spent as much time on my business in those months but I was in a funk and not completing things. Too much perfectionism and not enough “Git R Done”.

The difference is amazing in my bank account and that is the ultimate measuring stick.

Today is an example. Had a lot to get accomplished and I want to go chase the white ball among the trees this afternoon. After all through the rest of this holiday week end it will be too crowded at the golf course.

Will be leaving for there as soon as I finish this post. Here is the morning schedule.

Got up and made coffee always my first priority
Fed the turtles and sat down to check email and support
Shared the overnight items from my Google reader that were worthwhile
Sent out the daily ezine
Ate breakfast
Ran to the supermarket
Added the new month of content to Super Traffic MRR to drip out later this month
Created the new freebies for Freebie Friday
Created the offer for Saturday Seven
Attended Marlon Sanders A Team call
Did my blog post

Now I am off to chase the little white ball under every tree on the course. What did you get done?

Manage your time and focus your business

The biggest problem that most people I talk to have is information overload. This is really easy to succumb to. To avoid it I have been re-visiting things that I know are stumbling blocks for me. By discussing them this should help you.

The first person who has really helped me in this respect is Marlon Sanders. His ezine consistently discusses the actions you need to take and what matters. You can see some of his best by signing up to get the Best Of Marlon Sanders ebook. It is a compilation of some of his best ezines. Then make sure you do what is necessary to make sure you see his ezine and read and apply what he talks about.

The second person that has helped me to get organized and focus on what is important is Robert Plank. His Time Management On Crack has allowed me to pay attention to the things that really matter, The items that will make a return but more importantly to get things done one at a time. Kill the multi-tasking. Keep the focus. Eliminate the outside items while working.

Finally my good friend Joel Osborne and his Twitter prodding with “Have you taken massive action today” tweets. You can follow Joel and have him prod you too.

All of this has caused me to take some of the following steps in just the past week.

I am sorting my email and using the unsubscribe links. If the person does not give me information I can use and I tend to ignore the email most of the time why am I on that list? Doing this has made a big dent on my inbox saving me time. Hey even if you are on my list and you don’t read it or it does not help you then unsubscribe. It removes clutter that stops you from doing the important things.

Create my four must do tasks each day. These do not include any maintenance tasks like email, the support desk, etc. but are 4 tasks that will actually help my business.

For example Thursday most but not all of my list was based around finishing Twitter Time Saver.

Email about teleseminar with Doug Champigny on using Twitter and prep questions (Replay is available here.)
Finish the sales page
Create the download page
Final edit of report

By getting those items done I was able to hold a successful teleseminar, review and test everything for Twitter Time Saver on Friday and launch it on Saturday. All of those tasks were focused on something that can earn me money. Too often we get busy on the 80% that don’t bring results.

Now the regular tasks will get done like my blog posts, answering support inquiries but taking the time to prioritize the things necessary to make money was the key.

So by focusing on a very specific few things and doing them to completion I am able to move things forward faster.

So my new goal is massive action on specific tasks each day that I work. What is yours?
