Rick Butts has had a couple of interesting posts lately about this topic. Seems a lot of people are getting slammed when the various product launches take place but not getting much quality content. He went so far as to say you should unsubscribe from all the lists that sent you messages with Stomper Net this week.

Now I agree with a lot of what he said but think he may have picked a bad example. Stomper Net gave out a lot of great content that can help you. I like the whole idea of what Stomper offers and know quite a few friends that have used and loved Stomper Net.

The biggest point is not should you unsubscribe from everybody that sent you a message about Stomper Net but do they offer you quality information besides the promo emails?

I do agree with his point about information overload. That can be a killer for anyone, not just those starting out.

Rant

If you are starting out and don’t have a plan this will be an absolute killer. If you don’t know how you envision your business then each latest and greatest product will pull you away from your original goal.

It is okay to make changes but if you don’t know where your business is going you can’t ask and answer the key question you need to ask before buying or following anyone.

Does this help me with my plan or is this a new learning curve that will take me away from accomplishing what I am trying to do?

Now adapting is okay but…

Starting anew each week or month and you will never get anywhere.

End Rant

Seems that quite a few of the “Gurus” (I hate that word but you know who it applies to) have gone from giving out quality information and only sending promos.

Yes there may be a lesson in the copy but…

Do you ever get anything besides the information in their promo emails? Some do and those are the ones that you need to listen to.

5 years or so ago quite a few of the “Gurus” used to send a monthly newsletter that was content oriented without any blatant pitch to it.

Should you continue to subscribe if they don’t? Is what they are offering add to your business or side track it?

Well, that depends in my humble opinion. There are some that write very persuasive promos and if you are using those to help you become a better writer stick around. But…

Support the people that actually give you actionable information along with the promotions.

I am not against getting recommendations from people that have helped me. More so when they are actually using the information they are recommending. After all that is how I feed my family by selling things and if you are earning or trying to earn on line you do to.

I know at times I have gotten into the more promo than content mode and I also know that does not do service to my readers. It actually hurts my bottom line too.

Helping others will always get you where you want to go faster.
