Wow the new decade is upon us. I started to write 2009 and had to correct it. Guess it has not quite sunk in yet.

The Week In Review is something that I am considering let go as part of the many changes I am doing in my business for this new decade. Not sure yet, but your comments will have a lot of weight so if you enjoy this weekly digest leave a comment below and let me know.

This is the first one of the new year and actually the first one in 3 weeks. I took some time off over the holidays and a lot of that was in planning for the new decade and deciding what was going to stay and what was going to change. Scroll down a post or two and you will see what I am talking about.

One more week left on the blog tour. It has been fun and I do recommend you consider it as the results have been quite good but it does take planning and effort. You can find out more about setting up a blog tour in Nicole Dean’s Blog World Tour Guide

Now to the blogs this week.

WordPress Made Easy

What’s Hot

There are quite a few reviews that I have added here for evergreen products over the holidays. These are all products I use and recommend scroll down and keep reading after you finish here.

Simple Steps To Success – A new release from Shelby Carr which will help you overcome being utterly clueless in getting your business started. Includes an ebook and videos for a very reasonable price.

Skyrocketing Tactic – A new very limited PLR package from Joel Osborne. Being run as a WSO so the price increases as the number of copies sold does. Limited to just 75 copies and the topic – Make money with resell right – is perfect for adding an additional product to your arsenal.

Marketing Dashboard – Probably the best product I have seen for overcoming information overload. Marlon’s step by step instructions lead you by the hand to get your business going.

Power Start 2010 – Doug Champigny has just released a 4 week intensive mentoring course to get your business online and make 2010 your year. Check it out and as mentoring works best when you have the right fit I will be doing a teleseminar with Doug Champigny on building your business Monday night at 9 pm. Doug and I will be discussing the steps necessary to build a profitable online business. You can attend by calling in or listen online. Get the details here. Make sure to mark your calendar.

Blog Tour Update

This week the blog tour resumed after a two week hiatus for the holidays. I was at Twitter Marketing Products and will be making my last stop this week at Blog Income Life. Hope you have been following me and getting some great information as I travel from blog to blog.

Finally if you get here before noon est today I will be doing a talk at Affiliate Funnel today on Getting ready for 2010. It is free for all members and Affiliate Funnel is free just get the seminar information in the members area.

Remember to let me know if you want this format to continue as the number of comments this receives will be the deciding factor on whether or not the Week In Review continues.

Now go take action on your business today.

Well Happy Halloween. That means there are only two months left in 2009. Where did the time go?

I took off last week and have spent a bit of time restructuring things. One of the things I have decided to do is go back to basics in a lot of different ways to help you better.

You may have noticed that I have been doing a number of surveys here. If you have not voted on them please scroll down and give me your input.

One of the big things I have noticed is that often what I have been skipping is some of the basics. Too often this leads to information overload for you the reader.

There are certain basic things that everyone needs and between now and the end of the year I am planning to address basics much more often. This does not mean that there will not be more advanced topics but I want to step back and help you with the basics so you can apply the more advanced items easily without the information overload.

Your key though like always will be to actually take action. Now on to the blogs.

WordPress Made Easy

Back to basics for a bit

Protecting your blog – Its a shame but necessary…

WordPress 2.8.5 – A new upgrade to harden your blog

The PLR Secrets

Private Label Rights – Tools you need

Its a bird, its a plane, its…

Three Turtle Marketing

Are you growing or declining?

Recommendations

The Marketers Hosting – A necessity for everyone is to have hosting but this supplies much more than just hosting. You also get an autoresponder, tracking and an affiliate program for $20 a month. You can host multiple domains so this makes it a real deal for everyone.

Blog World Tour Guide – Nicole Dean visited here in August for a week as part of the Rockstar Blog World Tour and has created a great guide to help you do the same. This is an excellent traffic generator and done properly can help your business in multiple ways.

Affiliate Marketing PLR – Great package that will allow you to create a list building system and a product from the same package for a very affordable price.

Saturday Seven – Another package with PLR and includes a squeeze page system and sales page this time with the topic being Twitter, This package like the Affiliate Marketing one are one of the keys to growing your business. You never have enough ways to add subscribers.

Halloween Giveaway – Get 256 free products and services to help your business.

So look for much more educational information on basics across my blog network and I will be going on a blog tour between now and the end of the year. If you would like me to visit send a note to the support desk.

Make sure you have voted on the surveys below too as your input is needed and wanted.

It has been an ongoing topic here about taking action. Massive action to completion. Getting one thing done, finished, complete (see a pattern there) before you go to the next thing. A great way to avoid information overload.

It has been beaten into my head from a variety of people regularly and I am sure you have heard it too but like me until recently have too many things going at once and none done. Marlon Sanders talks about it in just about every email he sends.

Despite hearing that for years from him it was when I grabbed Robert Plank’s Time Management On Crack and started applying the items in it that it made a huge difference. After all if that young punk could do what he does I could surely do more than I was. (Yes that sentence was put there just because I know Planky will be by.) Getting things done good enough works and you can always go back and make it better.

That has allowed me to just get things done like the report I added to my list building. One of his rules is if you buy it use it in 24 hours. I did just that with the Social Networking PLR Pack from Doug Champigny.

I wanted a new lead generation system and the Social Networking Report in there was perfect for what I had in mind. I have a few products on Twitter and lots of stuff on WordPress so it would be a perfect ethical bribe for potential customers. It was what my potential customers would be interested in.

By following the 24 hours rule it was up and live at http://socialbiznetwork.com within four hours of purchase.

Tomorrow I am re-launching my WordPress Made Easy product (not linked because there will be a 4 day special discount for the re-launch so it costs more today) as I have just re-done all of the videos and the work books to bring it up to date, Created when WordPress 2.0 was the latest version the changes as we approach the release of 2.8 have been huge and it was either redo it or close it up.

Had it all done yesterday and when I saw the number and size of the files I knew it was time to learn something new. It had the potential to create havoc because of the amount of videos and bandwidth so it was time to figure out Amazon S3. That is accomplished now so there are no worries.

The key is that before this morning I knew nothing about Amazon S3 except that it was a good way to deliver high bandwidth items and lots of people use it for videos and downloads.

So off to Google and then YouTube and now although not an expert I have everything working and tested. Mainly because I decided that I would and ignored everything else until it was done.

So two questions today -What is holding you up?

And why aren’t you blowing it away?

Just about any technical question you have can be overcome using Google and YouTube so stop the excuses and as Larry “The Cable Guy” would say “Git’r done.”

The three items that showed up more than once in the other section of the survey were…

I want a step by step plan

Too much hype

Information overload

Lets look at each of those in turn.

A step by step plan -

There are a lot of those around and I have used more than one. The problem is that when you are starting out you need to pick just one and follow it through to success.

The problem is that even with the best step by step plan it will need to be tweaked to you and your skills. The other thing is that those tweaks will be the difference that makes it work and you WILL make mistakes as you go through any system. Thats life and not what you want to hear.

What then happens is as you are starting to become barely competent and reach the point where you are oh so close to becoming good at that business model you give up and restart the learning curve over again.

There are two step by step plans that I have purchased, used and recommend but only if you keep following the same plan until you get it working properly for you and there are numerous others that I have not tried.

Promo Dashboard

Video Cash Explosion

They both will take effort and tweaking to get them working for you but if you continually follow and tweak either you can get good results. Their will be a learning curve with each of them and with any other step by step program.

Too much hype -

Sometimes there is but if you are going to make money online something has to be sold. Do some people only tell half the story to make it sound better – yes they do. Is everybody selling in the internet marketing arena on how to make money ethical? No they are not.

Use your brain and if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. If you think you can push a button and make tons of money online you are kidding yourself and you really should know better.

Yes you can work the 4 hour work week and make tons of money online but it takes knowledge, effort and perseverance. You don’t start with the 4 hour work week it is usually the 80 hour work week usually with minimal return until you get the little tweaks right. Most people that get there put in time. Lots of time and effort.

Like anything it takes knowledge and preparation. Take the Beatles who were one of my favorite bands. They spent a quite a bit of time playing 12 hours a day in Germany before they became that huge overnight sensation. They weren’t an instant success without any preparation.

There is always a background of preparation and frustration behind the hype but a lot of what you think is hype may be real and a lot of it is doable if you are willing to put in the effort.

Information overload -

This comes about when you don’t have a plan or business model that you are using. If you do it becomes very easy to avoid it.

Yes things change quickly on line and you are bombarded with information. Every time you turn around someone else wants to show you the next shiny gadget.

The key is to pick your business model, have a plan and then when presented with the next shiny object ask the question “Can I apply this RIGHT now to my business or will it be a distraction and new learning curve?”

That one question will help you avoid information overload but…

You do need a plan.

Hope this helps and do appreciate all that took part in the survey.

Started to do a bit of planning on how to incorporate the survey results here to help you the most. As I sat working in Free Mind a simple question occurred to me. What business model do I base the series on?

Seems to be a simple question but it really isn’t and it is probably the biggest reason that people fail and get information overload – too many choices. I now use a few different ones but to start you need one and you need to get good at the one.

The problem is that there are so many and if people focus on one they can eventually get it to work. What happens though is that most just try one and when it does not work immediately they see 4 more opportunities in their email box and go for the new shiny object.

Let me ask you a question now. When you were a kid and learning to ride a bike did you get on the bike the first time and go speeding off?

Or were you like me and you rode with training wheels for a bit to get the feel for it? Then your Dad took the training wheels off and you immediately crashed because you just knew you could do it. I did. I crashed a second and a third and a fourth time too. I was really getting pissed because my friend could ride and made it look easy. I mean after all how hard could it be if he could do it?

Finally I allowed my Dad to help steady me and once I got to speed he let go and it actually worked even after he let go until I realized that I was actually riding on my own when I promptly crashed.

Soon after that though it just became part of me. I got on the bike and took off riding with no problem. Once I did that it was easy and even today, 50 years later, I can get on a bike and just go because I know how to ride. I had made all the mistakes and learned from each one not to make the same one again.

The point is that first I had to decide you wanted to ride the bike. That desire had to be sufficient that I would keep trying after you crashed and scraped your leg. I even needed to swallow my pride and let my Dad help me (not an easy thing for a stubborn 5 year old). In my case it was that my best friend could do it and made it look easy.

You will have times when you get frustrated and just want to walk away from the bike or your business.

So I guess the point of all of this rambling is 4 fold.

You need to pick one business model and get good at it. Yes you can add other things later but to start you need to have just one that becomes as easy as riding a bike is once you master it.

You need the desire to stay the path and get up when you get knocked down because you will get knocked down.

You need to learn from your mistakes and adapt.

Find someone to help you along the way and steady you until you get started.

If you are looking for the big red easy button you are in the wrong place. You can have the big red easy button and a lot of us do but…

There is a price that is paid before the button works.
