Long time readers will be familiar with Dr Mani. I have participated in a wide variety of blogathons, tweetathons and other fund raisers to raise money for his foundation.

Dr Mani uses the proceeds from these various events to find heart surgeries for poor children that have a congenital heart defect. This has not been a great year for his fund raising so he has put together a huge package on his marketing products for a ridiculous price.

Before the lesson a quick reminder that Valentines Day is this Sunday. If you forget you may pay a price from your significant other so don’t say I did not warn you.

Just got an email from Dr Mani that he was discontinuing his free giveaway of his new ebook version of the upcoming book 47 Hearts.Over 700 people downloaded it but no one followed up to join one of the 47 Heart Groups.

Now this is a shame as each 47 hearts group is created to fund a heart surgery for a child from an under-privileged family born with congenital heart defects.

The whole point behind 47 Hearts is to launch a book (that is a worthwhile read) this Valentines Day to raise money with the goal being to fund 47 heart surgeries this year.

The idea was that if you got a chance to read it you would want to grab a few copies on Sunday when it launches for your friends and family. This would make the launch a success but more important it would raise more money to help the kids. It would spread the word and more people would get involved and donate leading to more children being helped from this project.

So it did not work so the question becomes why?

Really do not have a solid answer but I do have some speculations and they may help you with what you promote.

First the vast majority probably never even opened the book. They went to the site, downloaded the book and then Skype or another messenger got their attention and it was forgotten. How many times have you done just that?

Second the instructions may not have been clear or compelling enough to get people to take action. I did not see how it was set up before because I got a copy for review quite a while ago.

This is one of the reasons I like to use steps when giving things away. Tell people to do 3 things and they are more likely to do them. On free download pages and even on confirmation pages I like to use something like…

People do not like to skip things so if you told them they need to do 3 things they are much more likely to do just that.

Finally because attention is so short it should have run through a squeeze page. This way Dr Mani would have a way to follow up not to dun them for not helping but a chance to remind them of the rest of the steps.

I understand why he didn’t but if people are not willing to get involved enough to opt in for a valuable book it is unlikely that they will follow through to donate.

My guess and it is a guess is that had that been done he may have only given away 20% of the number of books but he would have raised some donations through the process.

Gifts are great but people take action only when they have had to take action to get there.

Now in summary…

Don’t forget Sunday is Valentines Day.

Yes for those that are like me Valentine’s Day is not far away so time to remember before you get in big doo doo. Done that once and not likely to forget again .

We are now in month 10 of the year 2009. Where is the time going? Guess I am just getting older faster

Not many blog posts this week because at the end of each quarter I spend time reviewing exactly what has been working and what has not. Taking the time to do this allows me to continue to improve what I am doing.

I do recommend that you make sure that you are tracking your results and step back on occasion to see exactly what is working and to improve those things that are not.

It has been a bit disappointing this week. I like people that take action and it seems that is tough to do for some. I offered a bribe of any of my products for one person to get my readers to take action and no one has claimed it If you are an action takers check out this post and respond.

Well two months are done in this year already. Where did the time go? Not sure but things are really rolling along quickly or it just may be being old and bald that makes it seem that way.

Been behind most of this week as I a flu bug kicked my butt and I lost a day resting and then spent a day traveling to honor my ex-mother in law who passed this week. She will be missed but would have been very pleased with the service.

The other thing that has slowed me down this week is implementing the start of my outsourcing. I have outsourced frequently before but this time I am in the process of taking it to the next level using John Jonas ideas in ReplaceMyself.com. Like all new items added into your business this has a learning curve and you actually slow down a bit before you can increase your business.

Probably a lesson though that we all need to consider and remember. Yes the sales letter for each and every product will tell you how easy it is and for most good products it is…

Once you get through the learning curve and apply the information. You will always have a learning curve and application time and all too often we don’t take that time or the effort to get through it. Think about that fact the next time you are looking at the next shiny object and make sure that you have applied the last one before you head off in a new direction. Understand that sometimes it takes a small step backwards (the application time) to move forward.

Well enough pontificating today I guess funerals (and at my age they have become all too regular of an occurrence) makes me look back and rethink things. Off to the blogs.

Robert Plank released his new Time Management On Crack product which I reviewed and loved. Not sure what Planky’s thing is with on crack but it is a common theme in his products. Something for inquiring minds to figure out? If you can figure it out let me know as it must be a young whippersnapper thing that is beyond this old bald guy.

Dr Mani released a free report that you don’t even need to opt in for that is worth checking out Business Multiplier. Very powerful ideas and won’t take you long to read. However, like most things the key is to apply them.

Been lots of big launches like the PPC Classroom and Ewen Chia’s book. I have not reviewed any of them but am sure you got pounded with email on them if you are on more than one list.

Will be doing a seminar today at noon if you read this early enough at Affiliate Funnel on Tracking – the key to improvement. Affiliate Funnel is free to join and the weekly seminars are valuable even when I am not the speaker .

Last thing as this has become a huge review this week but Doug Champigny is launching his Free PLR Giveaway Sunday at noon. Today I did my email a bit different and violated some of the “rules”. Will it work? That is the real question and the answer will show up soon. That is one of the nice things about the internet – speed.

Couple of things here that you are usually told to avoid like multiple items in the same email and using that dang 4 letter word work. After all people don’t want work they just want the easy button even though we all know that you need the work.
