Only one more week left in January and what have you accomplished so far this year? I have become quite adept at using the snow blower so far. Would prefer not to get so much practice time but that is not to be.

It must be winter in PA.

This week has seen a lot of new PLR releases. Seems like every time I turned around there was another one and that is only the ones from people that I know and trust their quality.

PLR has become a big topic but so many people don’t understand how to use it. That is why I got so excited when Jimmy D Brown released his PLR To Profits course this week.

Jimmy is one of the originators of PLR and he is one of only a handful of people that I always get much more from than what I spend.

Over the last couple of days a good friend of mine, Doug Champigny, has been writing about the changes he sees in internet marketing. A lot of what he writes about I agree about and had come to similar conclusions. Some I didn’t.

Nothing unusual there to say the least. Everybody has their opinions but most will agree that things have changed drastically over the last two years.

In the first post Doug deals with some of the changes that I am sure you have seen. Lot of the big guys have increased their email significantly because of the lack of response. Prices have come down on some of the big ticket launches.

The worst thing I have seen is the teaser products that are launching.

You know the ones. You buy a $37 product then get the various up sells to really make it work. Not something I can recommend to people.

Much rather let you know what it costs up front to really make something work.

Then add in the trials, as I am sure you have seen this week. All the just $1 for 50 sites emails. Now the product may be good or it may be bad, but when you are selling, in this case a $67 product, having to really look closely to even find out what the real price is, is not good marketing.

I am sure there are up sells, but as I have not promoted it or bought it, so I can’t tell you what they are.

Definitely agree with Doug that you need to be doing more than one thing right now. Just blogging, just email marketing are not going to work well.

You need to be using multiple approaches to drive traffic and if you are not you are at risk. You need an email list, you need a blog but you need to be doing other things too.

Now to the affiliate side of things.

Setting up ongoing funnels and really understanding the product/s you promote is going to be key. You need to have a regular pre-sell process set up and working for you.

I did like the idea, which I have already been doing for a while, of setting up funnels and allowing them to be recurring income from one time sales. A couple of my niche sites work like that.

These are set up with a blog, a squeeze page system, a variety of articles and various Web 2.0 sites that have been running hands free for quite a while, but each month generate sales.

Something I need to do more of this coming year.

The big difference is that I really think that the economy will not be turning around as soon as Doug does and because of that it will definitely take stepping your game up to improve your results into the future.

More very specific funnels will be my key concentration this year. It is one of the reasons I added a bunch of PLR e-courses that you can grab at The PLR Secrets to allow people to have a base to set up funnels on a variety of topics quickly.

This will be key for the coming year, at least for me.

Yesterday I talked about the need to understand how to put a successful promotion together and I recommended a way to get the training you need through Marlon Sander’s Promo Dashboard.

Email swaps are one of the easiest ways to power up your list building. Now you do need to have a list to start but once you have an existing list of 500 or more you can start using this technique.

The concept is simple and that is part of what makes it so powerful.

You email your subscribers a free offer from your partner and they email their subscribers about your free offer. If you have similar size lists or one of you can segment your list to match clicks you can add quite a few subscribers quite quickly.

Their are a variety of sites where you can find partners looking to do this and as long as you both have offers that match your subscriber base it is a win – win for both partners.

Now the down side to this is locating partners and when you find a good partner it is always best if you can swap more than once. To do this though you need more than one offer.

Now creating your offers can be quite time consuming. You need to create an ethical bribe, compose a quality squeeze page then set up your other pages to complete the system.

At first glance affiliate marketing looks like an easy way to get your business going.

You do not need to create a product and deal with delivery of the product and the various support issues that can come up. You need to send traffic and if the visitor buys you make money.

Seems simple enough but anyone doing this for any length of time knows that to do this effectively there is a lot more you need to do besides traffic.

To be effective you need to be building a list. Just to do that part and setup a proper funnel can be a huge learning curve.

You need…

• An offer (gift, bribe) that people really want
• Pages set up and properly monetized
• Follow up email series to sell the product

Now you need to drive traffic and that can include…

• Article marketing
• Blogging
• Video marketing

Now none of that matters if you haven’t picked the right products to promote. It can be overwhelming to say the least.

So if you have found that this affiliate thing is just not the panacea it seems at first glance maybe it is time to cut your learnng curve.

Doug Champigny is doing an 8 week intensive course on affiliate marketing starting June 2nd. I will warn you though that this is a “doing” course because Doug will walk you through exactly how he creates money generating affiliate promotions.

Been another busy week here as summer is just around the corner. Next week end is the “beginning” of the summer season here with Memorial Day arriving. Conventional wisdom says that things online slow down then but I think that is more a matter of our efforts slowing down then a truth.

After all the weather is nicer, it is light later in the evening and there are a lot more outdoor activities and people going on vacation. But…

That only applies to the northern hemisphere because the southern hemisphere is going into winter time with shorter days and less to do.

Your effort is the key no matter what time of year it is.

One of the keys to growing your business is having your own product/s. It gives you a lot of ways to leverage your efforts and using PLR (private label rights) to have your own products is one of the easiest ways.

Having your own products and building your list are the keys to growing your business. Keep your focus and the summer can be an excellent time for you.

Well with today being the first of April and commonly known as April Fool’s Day where jokes and pranks are prominent I figured it was time to look at the subject.

The first quarter is completed of this year and you can find out if you are a fool or you are not. Quite often we fool ourselves especially when it comes to creating a business online and how much effort we put into it.

The basics of marketing online really are not complicated but there are so many variations you can use that it keeps people from doing the things that are necessary to succeed.

So in my best Jeff Foxworthy impression (apologies in advance to Jeff)..,.

You might be a fool if…

• You didn’t add a new squeeze page last quarter
• You didn’t add a new product for sale
• You didn’t set up a traffic system last quarter

See the key is to get things online because once that happens you can test and tweak it. Too many people spend all their time in learning mode and never get to action mode.

That is how you make a fool of yourself even if you think you are working hard at building your business because if you don’t constantly add things you will not be making mistakes and failing so you won’t get a chance to improve anything.

Now if you find you have been a fool there is no reason to continue. If the steps are stopping you it is time to take action. Get someone who will show you how to do all 3 of these things and more and do it in 30 days.

Check out Doug Champigny’s Powerstart 2010 Coaching and finally become a doer not a learner. If you are going to get taught make sure it is from someone who is doing right now what he is teaching and not teaching what they did 4 years ago.
