The problem for most of us starting out to build an online business is the sheer volume of business models available online. Trying to pick one that will work for you and then maintaining focus on it is almost impossible without someone to show you the way.

As you get involved and grab some of the free information you end up getting on a variety of email lists or following a variety of blogs looking for the golden fleece.

The worst part is that all of them will probably work but only if you focus on that particular business model. I struggled for quite a while until I realized that you need to follow a single very specific plan and that only worked if you had someone to teach you and keep you on track.

When I finally realized that trying to do twenty things and changing direction every other month was not going to build a business I found someone to model. It wasn’t a formal mentorship but having that go to person made a huge difference in my business.

I now had a plan and was going down a path that would help me build a business. Over time that business has changed but the online market place changes so it is just the way it is.

Since then I have had a few mentors as my business has grown. Over the last almost two years I have been very active with Team Champigny and have seen the growth in the new members of the affiliate force.

When Doug Champigny told me he was going to open a mentoring program I knew that it would be very helpful for my readers.

The problem is that a mentor has to be someone and have a style that works for you. Because of that I want to introduce Doug to you through a teleseminar we will be doing Monday night at 9pm est.

Doug will be discussing his business model and how he built and is building his business. Doug is someone I have learned a lot from and I know that the time you spend listening and asking your questions Monday will benefit your business.

So mark your calendar for Monday – January 11th at 9pm. You can access it online or call in here.

You can check out Doug’s new mentoring now or wait until you have a chance to listen and ask your questions.

It is a good question and one I really wonder about often.

See I have been on both sides of this question. For a couple years I searched for the magic button. Tried tons of programs and was consistently disappointed with my results.

I tired the just work harder and it will happen. Quickly found that not to be true.

Finally I decided to actually listen to someone that was walking the walk even though it took me out of my comfort zone.

It was hard for me to do that because working hard was making me a bit of money but not what I needed to be able to stay home full time. So if I really wanted to do that I would need to change what I was doing.

Once I started following a path that someone else had already tred and modeling success instead of being stubborn and doing it my way things started to change.

So the question is what is holding you back?

Leave your comments below and lets address them here.

This is the final post in the business building series. Testing and tracking was the most important piece but this is where you get the leverage from that effort.

Now that you are testing and tracking you can develop the information to really leverage what you are doing.

You should have these figures now available to you.

How many page views to get a signup

How much your initial email series makes for you

Now you can start to automate the process. In this case we will discuss traffic exchanges but the process is the same if you are using ezines, article marketing, blogs etc.

You should have a number of page views per signup so divide 1000 by that number. Divide the answer into the cost of 1000 credits at the te you are using to get that rate. That will be your cost per subscriber.

Example – 120 pages per signup – cost of $8 per thousand
1000/120 = 8.33
$8.00/8.33 = $0.96 your cost per subscriber

Now take the number of subscribers you got last month divided into the commissions you received from the programs in your warm up series. This will be your income per subscriber.

Example – 320 subscribers – 396.80 income
396.80/320 = $1.24 your income per new subscriber

In this case every time you get a subscriber you net $0.28 after they go through the warm up series. Now some of your credit purchases will be more and some may be less but you now have a system that can consistently return all your money spent advertising through your warm up series and then some.

Now it is just a case of keeping track of your results each month and spending more each month to generate more subscribers.

Here is the key though you now have the time to start working and tweaking a new offer or a new product to sell to those people you already have. You have created the first relatively hands free system now it is a matter of rinse and repeat.

Now you can spend your time doing things to expand your business rather than spending your time generating traffic.

This series of posts will be turned into an ebook and expanded a bit. If you would like a free copy when it is done make sure that you have signed up for the notification list on the upper right.

As always your questions and comments are welcomed.

Now to what is hot.

Lucid SEO will be pulling the bonus sessions from their relaunch. The monthly plan makes it affordable and you can easily use this to gain more free traffic to your site.

Firepow has changed the way that niche blogging is done. It can save you a ton of time and has some features you won’t find anywhere else. Niche blogging can be extremely profitable and this will save you time.

Teleseminar Formula from Bob Jenkins is a great free book that will show you how to use the phone to create a product. This is not a cheap giveaway but has real value. If you haven’t grabbed it do it now. Don’t overlook his upgrade as that can really turbo boost your business.

Had a good post yesterday that included my turtles. Yep I have learned a lot from those three cute critters. You can too.

That is all for this week. Have a great weekend.

As always your questions and comments are welcomed.

The results of yesterday’s survey are in. I mindmapped them below.

The results were quite interesting. Some were a bit of a surprise and some weren’t.

Two things really stood out. The number of people making a profit was almost exactly the same as the number of people that had a list of more than 500.

Coincidence? I think not. I know that I made money without a list but not consistently. When I started building and using lists my business became profitable.

Things that made me go hmmm…. (Yep an Olsonism)

More people had a blog or website than I expected. Seems that isn’t a key.

More people tracked their results than made money consistently but that number does correlate to the number of people making more than $50 a month.

Almost half of the people responding had not started their first list yet only about half of that number thought that list buiolding should be the number one topic.

Takeaways

If you are not making money and have not started building a list maybe you should.

Having a web site or blog does not correlate with success unless you are building a list.

What to expect from this blog in the future

After going through the results I am willing to bet that the vast majority of the people who have not made any money fall into one of these categories.

Have not started to focus on a business

Are looking for the magic button

I can help the first group but if you are looking for the magic button I think you need to look else where for help.

I will be going through some of the things you need to do to get started as this is an area I feel is sorely lacking but…

It will not all be free. I will on occasion recommend tools that I use and that you need to have. Some of these have a cost – some are free. If you think you can build a business with no investment then obviously you are a magic button seeker. It will take a combination of FOCUSED time and money to get going.

Let me know if you are interested in this by leaving a comment. It will take effort on my part and I have no problem with that but only if there are people that will actually take action.

No comments and I’ll figure that the readers here are afraid of that 4 letter word that begins with a W and looking for magic buttons.
