Floating Action Button – Scam? I don’t think so
Recently there has been a big spat in a forum because a gentleman accused Soren and John of being a scam with their new Floating Action Button. This gentleman went so far as to say that people should ask for a refund. You can see his post here.
Personally, this is a crock. First if you check the US Patent office you will find that the vast majority of new patents are to improve an EXISTING PRODUCT OR TECHNIQUE. Soren and John took an existing web technology and made it easy to use for the non technical person.
Now if you are familiar with Javascript and comfortable programming it then it is not necessary to use their services but…
Every survey I have done shows that most of my readers don’t have the skill set to do this. Personally, I don’t have the time to chase down GNU Javascript applications, go through the programming necessary to make it do what I want, add in custom graphics or an optin form.
Yes. I could learn and save the price of the product. Hell, I could learn and program my own autoresponder to handle my emailing too. Course I would still have the problem of keeping my server in compliance with the various isps and esps but that is another topic.
Now lets look at this one though. The current cost for the Floating Action Button is $27. If it takes me 3 hours to create my own (and that is a quick time frame in my opinion) then I would have made $9 an hour. Now, I don’t want to work for $9 an hour. When it first launched you could get it for $7 which meant my time would have been worth less than $3 an hour. I definitely don’t want to work for that. Do you?
If you would like to listen to s discussion on this topic and hear the first episode of my new podcast which will replace The Mike and Erik Show check out the interview we did with Soren at Floating Action Button – a perfect example of Amplification Marketing with my new partner Steve Roye and let us know what you think about this.

I’ll agree that you can find the base script lots of places. And if you are what I call a techy head and comfortable with javascript and HTML then it is crap for you.
However, what they have done is automate something and make it point and click simple for the non techy head.
Now I could use that and take the time to create those buttons and spend an hour or more on each to get it right at least at first or I can use their automated system and have it up and working in 5 minutes.
Don’t know what you value your time at but an hour of my time isa lot more than the price of the product and that is just to use it once. Go and create a few others and I have saved much more than it cost.
Just my opinion and I appreciate yours. BTW if you are technically competent and feel that $7 for an hour is too much contact me I could use someone to handle my technical stuff at that kind of rate.

I’m going to give it a shot. Thanks for the info.
I was looking all over the web for a site that had it plugged into Aweber like you do…BINGO!
