Really befuddled - guess that is no surprise

Yesterday was a day that really befuddled me on what people want and how to best help them. Would say it had me pulling out my hair but I don’t have any ;)

Here is what happened to befuddle me.

I wrote two posts yesterday. One here and one on my WordPress Made Easy blog. Both asked for input from you the reader on subjects that I was considering to help you.

The post here asked for your input about UStream and was this a media you use or participate in. Is live video a way to give you content that you embrace?

The response was non existent. The traffic was there so people read it. I specifically asked for comments and help with the ongoing poll here. There were no comments and only one person took the time to add to the poll.

Now on the WordPress blog I asked for comments on adding backlinks to your blog. This got 12 comments. Now there was a difference. On that blog I stated and meant that I would not continue the series to expand that post if I did not get 5 comments. It took less than 2 hours to get the comments and the traffic was about the same.

Hmmm…..

So here is the what I need answered because I am not sure how to interpret the responses - I am old and bald after all.

Is there no interest in UStream or live video from you my reader or do you really need some kind of incentive to get any input?

This Old Bald Guy really wants to know. Look forward to your input.

Personally I find it difficult to view this blog as things like to pop up all over the place and cover the page. Every time I click a tab something comes up, and every time I try to close the opt in form one over the navigation a peelaway goes over that. I realize that these are getting results for you, but it’s why I stay in the feed reader.

I have never heard of Ustream and besides I’m still not into all that videos stuff as I like to keep things simple.

Although I like to watch videos sometimes, I prefer written content that I can assimilate at any time, in any location - UStream is something I’m familiar with and sometimes watch, although being in the UK often means staying up for late start times for shows that are on in the evening in the US.

I recently watched part of a ‘live countdown to launch’ for an info product, and have to say it was more funny than impressive - not the most exciting stream until the countdown was completed, at which point the server for the sales system crashed, and the live show hurriedly ended for the presenter to go and sort out his loss of server!

In summary, I quite like recorded videos as long as they are short and to the point, but long sales videos lose me usually after about 6 minutes. As for live stuff, it hasn’t floated my boat to date.

I know about UStream, but I’m not doing much video just yet. I feel that I have a lot to do before I start into video in a big way.

On the other hand, I’m interested in getting my blog up-to-speed. I’m going to read the other article right now.
