Work The System – One of my secret weapons
One of the secret weapons I use regularly is Amazon. Each month I grab a couple of books on marketing or related topics and apply those to my business.
All too many people think that online business is different. Business is business.Online is just a different delivery method. The principles of business still come into play.
Work The System by Sam Carpenter is my current read.
This is a great book to read and apply. It is not a holistic type of book but definitely something that will take a bit to get the aha moment.
This book will improve my business many times over but a warning. This, like all worthwhile things, takes work. I will be adding some more reviews here on occasion because I am a firm believer in investing in your education regularly.
Take the time and add $30-40 to your budget to use at Amazon each month. It may be the best expenditure you make.

Couldn’t agree with you more, Mike! The Aristotlean school of thought holds that the best education is the most-rounded education, and every additional bit of information on any form of marketing helps marketers understand the big picture better, allowing them to use that knowledge to make more sales, build bigger lists and survive downturns so much better than most. Have been studying marketing for about 35 years now, and still have a lot to learn!

It seems I am in front of my computer 24/7. Always more to read, watch and learn from. Sometimes more than I can handle. Adding time to read a book seems like another distraction. But as I think about it, I would probably benefit from the time not at my computer. A different perspective in book from may be just the thing. An added benefit, my wife might stop harping at me for being online all the time. I may be able to eat my cake and have it too.

Had not even considered that as a source of learning material. But I can see your point and it does make sense as there are other places to get material for learning. Thanks.

It’s always a good to read reviews and see what other business owners like to read, as often those same books can help us as well, since like you said, business is business.

I agree that education is really important in any business you’re in. We need to stay on top of our niche. I like to read away from the computer so your suggestion is a good one. I’ve not looked at Amazon for quite a while so thanks for the tip and resource

I agree with Joel.
I like to know what other marketing books people are reading and learning from. I have been picking up a few myself, but mostly sticking to names I recognize right now. It’s always good to get a different perspective on what others find helpful.
Thanks Mike and looking forward to more suggestions and reviews!

Good point Mike. I guess I would have to agree with Earl. I spend a lot of time on the computer and am not sure where I would find time to read more books. My fiction reading is even falling behind. However, I am sure that there are many valuable books available that I should be reading.

Great tip. I find that I learn a tremendous amount by reading traditional business & self-development books that I find at Amazon.
Online marketing is still marketing and online business is still business. It’s good to understand the foundation of marketing and business in order to be the best entrepreneur you can be.
