Step by step plan – too much hype – information overload
The three items that showed up more than once in the other section of the survey were…
- I want a step by step plan
- Too much hype
- Information overload
Lets look at each of those in turn.
A step by step plan -
There are a lot of those around and I have used more than one. The problem is that when you are starting out you need to pick just one and follow it through to success.
The problem is that even with the best step by step plan it will need to be tweaked to you and your skills. The other thing is that those tweaks will be the difference that makes it work and you WILL make mistakes as you go through any system. Thats life and not what you want to hear.
What then happens is as you are starting to become barely competent and reach the point where you are oh so close to becoming good at that business model you give up and restart the learning curve over again.
There are two step by step plans that I have purchased, used and recommend but only if you keep following the same plan until you get it working properly for you and there are numerous others that I have not tried.
They both will take effort and tweaking to get them working for you but if you continually follow and tweak either you can get good results. Their will be a learning curve with each of them and with any other step by step program.
Too much hype -
Sometimes there is but if you are going to make money online something has to be sold. Do some people only tell half the story to make it sound better – yes they do. Is everybody selling in the internet marketing arena on how to make money ethical? No they are not.
Use your brain and if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. If you think you can push a button and make tons of money online you are kidding yourself and you really should know better.
Yes you can work the 4 hour work week and make tons of money online but it takes knowledge, effort and perseverance. You don’t start with the 4 hour work week it is usually the 80 hour work week usually with minimal return until you get the little tweaks right. Most people that get there put in time. Lots of time and effort.
Like anything it takes knowledge and preparation. Take the Beatles who were one of my favorite bands. They spent a quite a bit of time playing 12 hours a day in Germany before they became that huge overnight sensation. They weren’t an instant success without any preparation.
There is always a background of preparation and frustration behind the hype but a lot of what you think is hype may be real and a lot of it is doable if you are willing to put in the effort.
Information overload -
This comes about when you don’t have a plan or business model that you are using. If you do it becomes very easy to avoid it.
Yes things change quickly on line and you are bombarded with information. Every time you turn around someone else wants to show you the next shiny gadget.
The key is to pick your business model, have a plan and then when presented with the next shiny object ask the question “Can I apply this RIGHT now to my business or will it be a distraction and new learning curve?”
That one question will help you avoid information overload but…
You do need a plan.
Hope this helps and do appreciate all that took part in the survey.

I’ve got a barnfull of wheel that I have invented one by one. Bad idea. Find a plan and if you can stick to it. When selecting a plan make sure you have one that offers you support to help overcome the roadblocks that are inevitable. Don’t abandon ship. stay on course. and fighting information overload is a constant battle. It is particularly a problem when you are going in too many different directions. Means you have too much to learn at once, and then you flounder. I speak from experience. I’ve floundered over and over. So do what Mike preaches and not what I have done. It’s a much shorter path to success.

Mike,
A plan is a must. A step by step plan is in most cases required. But the step by step plan must be written by yourself or adapted to yourself.
A good coach can probably understand the person(s) and adapt the step by step plan as much as possible. If he can he will be a successful coach.
Hype and overload we have to live with, just ignore it or read between the lines.

Great advice Mike!
I think what it all comes down to is setting goals and taking action. If you plan out a method of attack and stick to it without going all over the place, I think all 3 of those issues can be solved.

Great responses to the issues raised in your survey, Mike!
The only thing I’d add to it is that all 3 can be overcome by hiring a top-flight mentor, then LISTENING to their advice, taking ACTION on their direction, and IGNORING outside influences til you have your online business running and making money regularly. Only then should you start checking out other ideas and other opportunities, since by then you have a stable income and enough experience to effectively evaluate the materials you encounter.

Yes, a plan is a must! You are so right about picking a single step-by-step plan and sticking to that plan and not chasing every thing that comes along in your e-mail.
It is very hard for the newcomer to do this as they really don’t know what to believe. There are so many ‘Make money by tomorrow’ gimmicks, and of course that is what everybody wants, that it is difficult to find the actual product that will work if applied correctly.
