Some great resources with the right price

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

I subscribe to numerous newsletters.  There are a couple of reasons.

  1. Allows me to keep educated and learn new things.

  2. Have a chance to see how different people promote the same thing in different ways.

There are also a variety of programs I use that tend to perform well for me.  Occasionally, the two meet and I get something that just needs to be shared.  Now Traffic Roundup is a good traffic exchange and I have used it for years but recently they added a newsletter with tips to help you in all avenues of your on line promotions.  The list of resources below comes from one of their issues.

“We would like to share some more great tools you may want to use for your business

  • Notepads

You can keep a notepad file on your Tool Bar so you can open it quickly to make notes to yourself like a to-do list, links and other info you use often.

Edit Pad Lite

Edit Pad Lite is a notepad that allows multiple documents to be opened at one time. It has tabs so you can move between documents quickly. This can be useful. It also makes a good HTML editor if you don’t need WYSIWYG. With a click of a button you can view your work in a browser.

You can get Edit Pad Lite free at:

  • HTML Editors

If you don’t know anything about HTML, you should at least learn a little about it. Do an Internet search for HTML tutorials and you find plenty of them.

If you do know a little about code and don’t need a full WYSIWYG editor (What You See Is What You Get), there are many good ones available for free on the Internet. What these do is allow you to use the code you do know along with code they provide for you. With a couple of clicks you can add a link or an image to your Web page, as well as change font size and color, and even add tables. These editors usually accommodate everyone from beginners to advanced users. Some of them even have built in FTP so you can upload your site without opening a separate program. One of the best is 1st Page 2000.

You can get 1st Page free here:

  • FTP Programs

FTP programs (File Transfer Protocol) allow you to upload files to your Web site. These are much faster and more convenient than logging into your cPanel, and a must have if you do not have a cPanel. There are some great FTP programs that you can get for free or for a small fee. Those with a fee usually have more features, like the ability to edit files right on the server.

You can do a search on the Net to find these. FileZilla is a really good one and it’s free here:

  • Graphics Viewer/Editor

Somewhere along the way you will probably need to resize a graphic to make it fit in a certain spot. There are a lot of great programs to do this, but possibly the easiest and best one to use is IrfanView. It allows you to do a lot of things with graphics like resize, sharpen, crop, etc.

Get IrfanView free at:

http://www.irfanview.com

  • Pixie

Sometimes on the Net you will see a color you would like to have on your Web, but you don’t know what the color code is. There’s great tool called Pixie that will get that info for you. You just start Pixie and hold the mouse over the color you are interested and it will give you the HTML info for it.

Pixie is free at:

  • Image Mapper

Did you ever see one of those really neat sites that has a graphic with different sections you can click on that take you somewhere? Maybe it’s divided into 4 sections and each section is a link to a different place? If you have ever wanted to do that, you can. Image Mapper is a program that will help you set this up. You just start Image Mapper, load the graphic and click it. I-Mapper will get the coordinates for you and output them as HTML. This is a keeper and it’s free at:

Now if you already belong and use Traffic Roundup make sure you have subscribed to their tips newsletter.  Definitely worth the time and a good source of information.  Now if you do not why not go to Traffic Roundup now and open a free account and make sure that you sign up for the newsletter in the member’s area.
