How I decide if a PLR product is worth the effort
Yesterday I wrote about Doug Champigny’s new PLR bundle on Aromatherapy. I talked about doing some real quick research when I first looked at it and thought it might be helpful if I covered the steps that made me decide this was worthwhile.
First I went to my best friend Google and typed in the topic “aromatherapy”. It came up with 11,800,000 results but more importantly for me a full compliment of ad word ads and a link to more.
So right off I know that people must be spending money in the niche or there would not be so many ads. So far I know it is competitive but there is money being spent.
Next I open up Market Samurai which is my choice for keyword research and throw in the main term. Then I analyze the results and see that ad words are quite competitive but some of the high cost ad words are not very competitive on the free side. Quite a few that are costing $2.00 plus a click have less than 50,000 competing pages.
Now at 50,000 competing pages I know I have a good chance of getting a decent ranking for those terms with a bit of effort. As people are paying that much for a click they are probably commercially viable too.
Next I went back to Google and typed in aromatherapy affiliate program.and it came back with 449,000 results. Now I know there are lots of potential products to sell on the back end.
Now this is just a quick look at how I run through quickly in about 10 minutes to decide if a product like this would be worth my effort.
The steps were
- Google the topic and look at how many ad words
- Run the topic through Market Samurai and check for competition and how much people are paying
- Check to see what kind of selection of other products I could recommend in the niche
Now I know if it is a product I want to use. Now I will have to do more research in finding the exact products for the back end, deeper keyword research for articles or blog posts, go check forums on the topic and find what people are talking about but I do know whether it will be worth the effort right now.
Hope this helps you decide when you see the various PLR products offered as to whether or not they are worth your effort. For Doug’s new PLR bundle the answer for me is yes.
Check it out at Aromatherapy PLR bundle.

Market Samurai is great isn’t it? It looks like we were both looking at the same keywords to use, as I did the same thing. lol
But yes, instead of just “assuming” a PLR product might be good, it’s worth it to check it out first, to make sure you will actually do something with it.

Thanks for the great advice, Mike – do you have a link to Market Samurai too?

Unfortunately they don’t have an affiliate program but you can get it at http://marketsamurai.com

Mike,
As always, great information. I, like Doug, was going to ask if you had a link to the Market Sumari. Will check that out.
Thanks for the tips on quick market research.
Keep up the good work.

These are some great tips to finding a good niche Mike.
I also did a little more extensive research on some keywords and there are some great ones out there for aromatherapy. Looking forward to putting this one to use.
BTW: LOVE Market Samurai!

Mike,
Thanks for the tips on checking out the utility and potential profitability of a PLR package. This same advice applies in an new adventure. Good tips to use for future market research.
Market Samurai says they are going to develop an affiliate program but it may be months away – want to develop the program more first.

This is certainly some timely and well thought out information Mike. I have done some research but not as extensive as yours. And I to really like Market Samurai. It was one of the better keyword tools I saw when it first came out.

[...] Yes you need to do the research and check keywords, yada, yada, yada. I did an article the other day on just that topic on another blog about picking PLR products. [...]
