Are you using the gifts you grab?

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Lots of giveaways lately and lots more coming towards the end of the year. Now you grabbed the products what did you do with them?

I really like giveaways both to build my list and to add good products to my portfolio. The big problem with most people starting out is you get info overload. All of these things to do and no idea where to start.

Does this sound familiar?

You joined a giveaway and downloaded a bunch of products. Now your hard drive is filling up but you don’t have an idea what to do with them. On top of that now you are getting a lot more email every day. Each one talking about a different topic.

Can you relate to this?

Here is a plan to help you get value from this instead of getting totally overloaded to where you do absolutely nothing. After all if you get frozen like a deer in the headlights you definitely will not make any money. It takes effort to succeed.

First have you decided on a business plan? If you have no plan then everything you look at starts a new business model. This is the real key to success.

Now lets start with the products.

Hopefully you added them all into a folder where you can find them. Start by looking over each item quickly. Ask the following questions.

  • Does it fit your business model?
  • Does it seem to be a quality product?
  • What are the rights you have to this product?
  • If you answered yes to the first two questions can you apply it now to your business?

This will quickly allow you to sort out what is worth your time and what is not. Make a list of these and schedule time to actually use and apply the ones that are worthwhile and spend a set amount of time each day on this.

***NOTE – You should be asking these questions even before you start downloading ;) .

Now to the increased email you are getting. Ask the following questions.

  • Do I get usable information?
  • Does the topics discussed fit my business model?
  • Does the author fit my style?

Give each person two weeks and if they don’t get primarily all yeses then unsubscribe.

Now that you are consuming the information and applying it look at what has rights that you can use to earn from that you found worthwhile. (After all if you did not find it worthwhile why would you want to try and sell it?) This would be anything with resell rights, master resell rights or private label rights. Look for an article on doing just that in the future.

As always your questions and comments are welcomed.

    Excellent post Mike,

I wish I had information like this when I started. I spent a VERY long time with information overload. Still sneaks back every once in a while ;-)

I did what I am sure most people just starting out did and that is to grab everything you see and start downloading. I was trying to learn as much as possible and all I did was swamp myself with so much information that I was constantly distracted.

If more people would pratice the information you have here, they would definitely be a lot better off and be able to focus much better.

    Thanks Mike-
This was very useful as a reminder that a person can’t read everything, do everything, sign up for everything. It’s so easy to think-yeah, I’ll take that and that and that, I’ll read them later. Oops, later comes and the books haven’t been read.

I have to agree with Brett-I’ve picked up a ton of marketing/business articles and books and have read very few. I get swamped out easily, and then totally lose track of what I am trying to do, want to do or need to do. It all becomes too confusing.

I’m a biochemist and learning business speak is tough, it’s a whole new language. So, I’m starting from the ground floor with no business experience, and feel lost amid all the hype, and info, and even the methods, offers, etc that are real.

Thanks for short articles like this-a lot to think about, but not 30 pages to digest. You did a great job at presenting your ideas briefly, but understandably.

My question is how does one decide on a business plan? That’s where I get stuck right away. What is a business plan? Maybe that would be a good article topic-goes right to the core of what this business stuff is all about and how to start, I’m guessing.

    thanks Mike

    @Lilly -
I would recommend reading the free report I give away on the sidebar as it is a compilation of the series of articles I did on building your business a while back. That is the first part of the report.

    Mike,

Great information, both for beginners and experienced marketers.

I have to agree with you about asking the questions of yourself before you begin downloading products from giveaways.

Another question that I ask myself, and can’t really answer until I download the gift and opt in to whoever’s list, is; will this person provide me with some quality information through their ezine/newsletter that I can actually learn from or are they just using the giveaway to build their list?

In that respect, regardless of the product, downloading can be a crapshoot. You may end up with some great content that you can apply to your business, or you may just end up on a list where the person does nothing but try to sell you with each email they send out….in the latter case, I unsubscribe after 4-5 messages, if I even get that many from them.

    Have a great day!

I do agree which was why I added that portion. The good thing is that it is easy to click the unsubscribe if you get no value from that person.

I couldn’t agree with your post more Mike. I have so much stuff I want to take a look at and not enough time. I’m going to start taking your advice and try to filter out the useless junk out.

That is some great advice Mike, I’ve recently started to go through exactly what you talked about. I thinks it’s time I step back and decide what direction I really want to go. Then i can focus on the products within that area.
    Thanks for the tips.
