With the current economy there are lots of people looking for work or worried about their jobs or needing a way to increase their income. All of these have led to people looking at the internet as a possible solution.
Now there are a huge variety of ways to do this and unfortunately there are too many out there looking to promise the world to line their own pockets with your money.
Here is a way to build an online business that works and is sustainable.
You start with a blog and getting it set up with the proper plugins. You will need to link it into various Web 2.0 sites like Twitter, Squidoo, Hub Pages and others.
Set up a squeeze page and an e-course to start your list building. Once you have this set up you will need a product. The easiest way to do this is to find a PLR product or a resell rights product so you have a way to start monetizing what you are doing.
Now you could do it with your own product but it is easier to start with a PLR or RR product to save you time. Then as you are building your list you can ask exactly what people want and supply it.
Once you have these things set up it is time to look at generating traffic to your sites. This is where article marketing, posting to your blog, video marketing and podcasting can start generating traffic for you.
Final step is to find affiliate products that you can promote on your back end. Finding the right affiliate products and using affiliate products with residual income can increase your leverage.
Now unlike the scams out there that make it seem easy this will take some training and effort but this is what it takes to make a sustainable income.
You can get complete training and accomplish all of these steps in 4 weeks working part time if you have the right mentoring and training.
Doug Champigny has a new course starting in February that will show you exactly how to complete each of these steps and get your business running.
If you are tired of the pie in the sky promises and ready to truly build a sustainable business check out My Power Start 2010 and make 2010 your year.

People don’t want to hear it but it takes work and perseverance. Very good summary of some of the steps that must be taken in order to get started with an online business. Doug’s course will be a great help for those that are just getting started – also a big time saver on the learning curve.

Nice breakdown of what’s needed to start an online business. As you say there are way too many programs out there promising fast riches with no experience. To build a sustainable online business it takes education first and then time to implement what you’ve learned. Even though I’ve been working online for a while now I plan to take Dougs’ course when it starts in Feb. Of course the other very important thing to remember is that it takes work – this 4 week course will help to make me accountable to myself and follow though with Doug’s instructions.

Hi Mike,
Your post is a good summary on what it takes to make money online.
If I read this post a year ago I wouldn’t understand the internet marketing terms.
The course that you suggest would help to get the understanding.
So I’d say that after the course people will have an idea of what to do. It may be a good start. And after that it will still take a lot of work and dedication.
I wouldn’t say that they’d have a business. To build it will take considerably longer than 4 weeks.
I think that is what you meant.
I just wanted to clarify it because otherwise it might be tempting for some to think that taking a 4 week course will get you a business.

It always takes continued work and dedication but understanding and going through the process and making it worl once is the key. Now you can duplicate it again and faster.
Will you be doing 6 figures at the end of 4 weeks – I truly doubt it but you will have all the pieces in place.

Great post Mike, clear and concise. I also like the video approach. It helps bring the story home. I think I am going to copy it in the near future, now that I have broken through my video barrier. Consider it flattery, ok?

Great post Mike. First time commenter here. The truth is.. it also takes experience to build an online business. You need to do things repeatedly to understand their importance, and how they help your bottom line. I went through this myself and am still learning everyday!
Keep up the good work.
