Mistakes Happen – Don’t let them stop you

I often go on about taking action and in fact I recommend taking massive action but yet most people won’t take any action because of the fear that it will not be perfect. Stop using excuses and like Nike says “JUST DO IT!”

Last night is a perfect example. During our teleseminar about WordPress SEO Steve and I made a big mistake. We were going over the scheduled time and we failed to click the button to extend the teleseminar. Big oops.

It cut over 60 people that were listening on the web off in the middle of the call. Not a good thing.

Now to tell the truth this was not the first time either of us was using Instant Teleseminar. Between us we have probably done over 100 calls using that service and we do understand how it works.

We did get caught with the assume word. I set it up for an hour and Steve assumed I had set it for 90 minutes. Yes it did make an ass out of both of us.

The big point is we still had the back up recording (we always try to do at least two because stuff does happen) and we only lost the people listening online. Those that had called in were still with us so we completed the call.

I grabbed the recording as soon as we finished and cut out the last 15 minutes or so and created an apology page where people could still listen to the part they were cut off from. We extended the discount on the finished package for advanced purchasers until tonight at midnight. It will be released as soon as the transcripts come back and the sales letter is completed.

So we did our best to make it up to the people on line for cutting them off (it was a free call so we could have ignored them legally) and made the best out of it. We do appreciate people giving up their time to listen.

Takeaways

I know that Steve and I will be very careful about paying attention to the timer in the future.

We did our best to make it up to our listeners by getting the last part up within about an hour to fix our mistakes. You will make mistakes just fix them as quickly as possible.

We will have another product for sale sometime next week once the transcript comes back.

Now if we let fear stop us from taking action we would not have been scrambling for an hour last night to make it right. We would not have egg on our face from our mistake but we would not have a new product to sell next week.

Was it worth the trouble?

Absolutely because despite the rushing around to fix it and the embarrassment we will have another product that we can sell for our one time investment. Trading products for dollars beats trading time for dollars every day. That is how you get to the “internet lifestyle”.

Are you taking action even if it may embarrass you at times? Like Nike says “JUST DO IT!”

    Great recovery Mike,

And just goes to prove the fact that you should always have a backup plan in place.

I did go ahead and listen to the last 15 minutes of the call since I was unable to make the live call and the content on the last 15 minutes was substantial.

Can’t wait to get my copy of the recording and transcripts so I can listen to the whole thing.

Mike, I wasn’t able to be on the call. Good advice. And you did just that – make the best of where you are and move on. I did listen to the last 15 minutes that you recorded. Looking forward to the rest of the call when it is ready.

Even without the extra 15 minutes it still was a power packed call which I am sure everyone enjoyed. I know I did. I think it is nice of you to extend the time people have to get over and get this product. It will be worthwhile.

Your very right, we can’t let little things like this stop us from just doing it. Yes we will stumble, but if we learn from it and move on, that’s probably an even better thing than not stumbling and learning in the first place.

    Mey Mike,
Mistakes do happen. I had a customer once that we really messed up on and I immediatly went to visit her to give her the bad news. I’ll never forget that meeting. Her response was “it’s not the mistakes that matter but how you handle those mistskes that can make you a star.” The information in the call was excellent as usual and you and Steve are stars because of the way you immediately rectified the problem by giving us the recording of the last 15 minutes of the call.

Looking forward to more of your calls.
