Happy New Year

  • Sharebar

Hope you had a great holiday and are ready to rock and roll into the new year.

I have been doing a lot of planning and not as much blogging over the last 2 weeks. That is coming to an end this week end. It is now time to take action and make my plan come together.

Have you set up your plan for the new year and even the new decade yet?

If not go grab this free goal planning guide as a gift from me but beware it will take work to make it valuable to you.

Goals

One of the goals I have is to get back to more basics in what I share with my online family. All too often we all get hung up by the latest shiny new object (and some of them are great if you have the basics) but they can and often are a distraction.

Here is where you can help yourself. Yes, I will still be sharing some of the new items because for those that have the basics they can be a great addition. If you do not have the basics though you need to ignore them.

I probably should first define what I call the basics. The basics would include…

  • A domain that you own and host
  • An autoresponder so you can start building your list
  • Some type of squeeze page system to build your list (or more than one)
  • A blog that you add content to regularly
  • Tracking set up to know what is working for you.

So if you have these things and they are working well for you then you can look at the things that will improve what you are doing.

Along the same line there are tools you have to have. Sometimes you can get them free but I usually prefer to use free paid products.

I now that last sentence did not make a lot of sense but quite a few of the tools that I use regularly and pay for have affiliate programs. If you recommend them to enough people they will pay you more than you pay them making them a free paid solution.

Here is an example.

I use The Marketers Hosting for some of my sites, some of my autoresponder lists and to run my affiliate program. At $20 a month it is a bargain but as I recommend them (very easy to do because I like and use them) at the end of the month I get paid more than the $20 so it has now become a free tool that is a paid service.

That works for me with other paid services that I use also. After all how hard is it to recommend things that you use all the time. If you don’t have hosting I strongly recommend you use and then promote The Marketers Hosting.

So to start the year make sure that you have laid out your plan for the year, started with the basics and work on getting those working before you get distracted by the next shiny object.

Finally the ultimate key is to take action. You will not always get it right but you can continue to improve things if you actually get them done and out there.

Thanks for the free 2010 Planning Guide Mike,

I already have a basic plan for what I am going to be doing in 2010, but still need to work on the specifics.

Just to have a little accountability, here is my plan.

    1) 1 membership site every three months
    2) 1 niche site (or more depending on time) each month
    3) Creating and posting on my blog, a basic tutorial similar to my Paypal button creation tutorial with step by step processes and lots of screenshots each week.

Looking forward to sitting down with this planning guide and hammering out some of the specifics.

Thanks for all you do for us Mike.

While we may not thank you often enough it is greatly appreciated!

Just wanted to say thanks for the worksheets, I’ve already printed them out, and plan to fill them out tonight before bed.

The worksheets really make it easy to do. Just answer the questions. I like it. I’m one of those people who easily gets distracted. :)

Yep, often times we just “have to do it”… but we have to make sure we have a plan set out so that we don’t just do anything. Thanks for the great gift Mike!

Think that you are better to have goals that are further than you think you can go. It will help you increase what you do.

The real key is to plan out the things that really grow your business and minimize the items that take time but don’t add revenue.

Good post and thanks for remindering us that we need to set goals and get a plan set up. But, you very last point is key. Goals and a plan set up will get you nowhere if you do not take action. All to often I plan to do things and even put it on the calander to do, but then I fail to take action. I agree with Joel, we just “have to do it”…
