Twitter and Buzz – Just because you can? I don’t think so

  • Sharebar

Okay today will be more of a rant than an information post but there are a few things in here that can help you.

“Just because you can” is a very scary statement that can get you in trouble or ruin other wise good things. It is easy to do and I have been guilty on more than one occasion.

The latest is Google Buzz and I have corrected what I was doing “Just because I could” with Twitter. Buzz seems to be at it’s best when conversations start and adding your Twitter feed does not help that.

I removed my Twitter feed from Buzz this morning and will be going through over the next week and paring the people I follow that clutter up Buzz with their tweets. There may be exceptions where tweets are a small percentage of the content they provide but the majority will go away. Active tweeters should keep their tweets off Buzz me included.

I am active on Twitter and I love Twitter but..

It just does not seem to work well on Buzz at least in my opinion. Connecting it just clutters up the time line and makes it hard to find the real conversations worth participating in.

Now that being said I still have a link to my Twitter account in the sidebar so that people that find me on Buzz can get it access to it if they want it.

Now connecting content venues such as your blog posts, new videos and that type of content adds value but 140 characters and short conversations creates more clutter than value.

That is my opinion and I would love to hear yours.

Yes, I am starting to see that Buzz really is different from Twitter… two different tools to be used in two different ways. Because of that I have removed my Twitter feed from my Buzz as well.

    Hi Mike,

Thanks! I was going to do this but now I dont think I will!

To be quite honest I’ve not spent to much time looking through my buzz account. I think it’s because as you say it ooks cluttered. I’ll need to spend some time to see how to fine tune it best for my purposes. I will probably remove my twitter feed as well

    Hi Mike
You are right for my thinking. When you are following a lot on twitter it can be hard to follow any single thread of information and can quickly become a lot of noise. I see Buzz can quickly become the same just on its own, so adding a lot of twitter noise and you reduce the usefulness such that yes the noise overcomes any useful conversations going. Totally agree that twitter is for one thing and Buzz is something else. I much better like the conversations I can read in Buzz, great for making comments, could be a great tool to help drive traffic to sites when used effectively. More so than twitter as the conversations in buzz would already show you as someone of knowledge in the niche. Feeding a busy twitter feed into it may loose a potentially good conversation in the noise.

So no twitter feed into buzz here

    Peter
