Quite often I get asked “How do I get started with my first autoresponder?” It is probably the one thing that keeps people from starting to build their sales system. It really is not hard if you split it apart. Plan the system and the email series will almost write themselves.
The first thing is to decide on the purpose of your series.
- You are trying to drive traffic back to your sales page from your squeeze page on your product
- You are trying to warm up and create the relationship with new members of your list or ezine
- You are providing a tutorial on using your membership site
- And there are probably as many other purposes as your mind can create
Second you want to make sure that you provide what you used as a hook for the sign up.
- Send the download link for the video
- Send the download link for the pdf or special report
- Provide the e-course
Third determine what products you want to promote. Make sure that they match what you have used as an offer to join your list. This is probably the most important thing.
The worst thing you can do is to offer things (even in a signature ad) that have nothing to do with the topic that interested your subscriber to subscribe.
If you want me to unsubscribe quickly, offer me items that are about marketing when I signed up to a desserts newsletter. Now, offering custom cake pans, baking stones, recipe books, etc. would fit right in with your topic. Offering me an autoresponder service would not.
The important thing is to let people know you and start to develop a trust with you. Do that and you no longer sell things but recommend things. Your pocket book will love the difference.
