Affiliate Marketing – Creating your pre-sell system
This is the next in the series on affiliate marketing. Last two posts covered finding a quality product to promote. Next is to make a pre-sell system for your promotions.
First we want to start building a list of potential customers. You should have found a couple of products in your specific niche that you like to take the best advantage of this type of pre-sell system. It works best if you have multiple products but can be done for a single product.
Create a customer profile first. You need to be able to picture your ideal customer the same as you would if you were creating your own product. For an example I recently released Blogging For Seniors.
My customer profile would be a person retired or close to retirement looking for
-
Extra retirement income
-
Already on the internet
-
Probably in shock because of the drop in their IRA or 401 K
-
Afraid of being scammed from the various news stories on internet scams
-
More likely to want information in written form than audio or video
Knowing your potential customer allows you to figure out what the information is that they would be interested in enough to share their email address for it. Because I am looking for potential bloggers the majority that will be interested in my product will be readers and writers. Those that are primarily into video or audio are less likely to want to learn how to blog so I give away an e-course on blogging.
Now as you were going through the product selection process you may have found products that the creator did some of the work for you and provides tools like a rebrandable report you can give away.
Either way it is now time to set up a lead capture system and if the product does not have a report like that then you need to create your own. Create it in the format that your potential customer likes most (the reason for creating a profile).
Create a squeeze page, a verification page and a download page. Even though the easy thing is to just give the report away especially if the product owner supplies one you want the email first and the advantages of the verification and download pages.
On your verification page you will explain about white listing and verification to receive the gift but also add a bonus here through a thank you page ad. You can find a large number of free to join with an OTO sites at Instant Bonus Pages. This will allow you to start monetizing your process from the very beginning.
Okay I can hear it now you are afraid that might offend the person. Guess what? Who cares if a free gift is going to turn off your subscriber what are the chances that they will ever buy from you? Now it is important that your bonus matches your topic but if a free offer offends them better to lose them now.
Now on your download page set up steps. Most people if you ask them to do 3 steps will do 3 steps. We don’t like to leave things half done.
Have your first step be to download the gift, the second step to check out the sales page you are looking to promote and the third step can be another bonus offer.
Finally have a follow up series that will expand on the information you have in the gift and send them back to the sales page each time.
If you have found more than one product to promote in the niche now you can also offer them an additional bonus of the report for each additional product and just send them to the download page which will also have the same steps process.
So to summarize if you have three products to promote in the same niche here is how the follow up could be structured.
-
First few promote the initial product they signed up for the gift
-
Send them a bonus of the report for product 2
-
Follow up on that product for a few emails
-
Send them a bonus of the report for product 3
-
Follow up on that product
Yes it is a lot of work but if you find three products to sell and set up a lead capture system for each you can cross promote each of the offers and have the reports that lead back to the various products.
Set up the first one then add the others as you complete them and expand the email series of each for the other products.
This is why picking evergreen products is important for this systems.
Next session will talk about generating traffic.
As always your questions and comments are welcomed.

Excellent step by step process and very detailed and very true.
This is a great process to follow and I have rune across several so called guru’s that need to learn a thing or two from you Mike. It amazes me sometimes how the people that claim to be experts leave out some of the most basic steps. I can understand someone who is new to internet marketing missing out on some of these steps. That’s what’s so great about you and your blogs. You let people know what they should be doing and how they should do it.
Thanks for this next step in the affiliate marketing series Mike. It just keeps getting better and better.

Enjoying the series Mike and you make a good point about wanting the people to come through your sales funnel. And I like the idea of picking evergreen products as they can last for a long time. Waiting for the next portion of the series.

Great tips Mike… I think we often forget to sit down and really think about our potential customers and what they are like. We need to understand their needs and wants in order to market properly to them.

Mike thanks for this series and laying it all out for people. Thanks also for reminding people that this is a plan that will work but it has to be worked. To many people want to get involved in internet marketing but work is not part of their plan. Yet it has to be. Like most everything else, success always follows work. But you have laid out exactly where to concentrate the work. Very good post – keep up the good work.

Hey Mike,
Great tips! You’ve brought up a lot of really important points and outlined a great step-by-step strategy.
By the way, I’ve started using steps on my download pages recently and I really do think it’s much more effective than what I was doing before. I really wish I had started doing it sooner.
Thanks Mike!

Keep up the great work and looking forward to the next episode.

What you’ve laid out here Mike is definitely the hottest system of niche affiliate marketing online at the current time – mostly because its so highly profitable and so low an investment to get started with!
